Chattogram: Law enforcement agencies have arrested 546 individuals in a span of 24 hours across all 11 districts under the Chattogram Range in separate anti-drug operations and regular criminal cases.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, 163 people were apprehended in dedicated anti-drug operations, as highlighted in an official report by the Chattogram Range office. The report detailed that 108 individuals were arrested in connection with regular criminal cases, while 72 were held for previously filed cases. Additionally, 20 were arrested under Section 34 of the Police Act, three under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and 43 under various supplementary laws, including Section 151 of the CrPC.
Furthermore, 149 individuals were arrested based on outstanding arrest warrants, and another 34 were taken into custody under conviction warrants. In the drug-related cases, eight were identified as drug couriers, while 109 were tagged as drug users. Another 46 individuals, suspected to be drug traffickers, were arrested in regular and supplementary cases, bringing the total number of arrests in drug-related incidents to 163.
During these operations, authorities filed 33 drug-related cases. Meanwhile, mobile courts sentenced 67 individuals to varying terms of imprisonment and imposed fines totaling Tk 34,800. The operations also led to the seizure of 934 Yaba tablets, 17 liters of illicit liquor, 10.34 kg of cannabis, one bottle of imported liquor, 10 bottles of Eskuf syrup, and 75 Tapentadol tablets.
