Dhaka: Former army chief General (retd) S. M. Shafiuddin Ahmed has requested a 30-day extension to appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to provide his statement regarding an investigation into allegations of acquiring illegal wealth through corruption and irregularities. He was initially scheduled to present his statement at the ACC headquarters in Segunbagicha in the capital today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC had previously issued a notice to General (retd) S. M. Shafiuddin Ahmed, requesting him to record his statement as part of the ongoing investigation into the allegations against him. The notice, signed by Commission Director Md Abul Hasnat, specified that his presence at the ACC headquarters at 12:30 pm today was 'essential' for a thorough investigation process.
Akhtarul Islam, deputy director of the ACC's Public Relations Division, confirmed the request for a 30-day extension. He stated that the next steps regarding this appeal will be taken in accordance with the law. "He (ex-army chief) was scheduled to appear before the ACC today to give his statement. He has sought 30 days' time and the next course of action will be taken according to the law," Islam explained.
The investigation into General (retd) S. M. Shafiuddin Ahmed's alleged acquisition of illegal wealth is part of the ACC's broader efforts to address corruption and ensure accountability. The decision regarding his request for additional time is pending, as the ACC evaluates the appeal in line with legal procedures.
