The high court: has directed police officers to verify the authenticity of arrest warrants through the Crime Data Management System (CDMS) before making any arrest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the High Court also instructed authorities to ensure that the identities of the complainant and the lawyer are verified when filing complaint cases. This is to be done by attaching copies of the lawyer's identity card and the complainant's National Identity Card (NID) to the case records.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice KM Hafizul Alam and Justice Murad-A-Mowla Sohel announced the judgment. This ruling was made while disposing of a rule that had been issued in relation to the case earlier.
The directive follows a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) in the public interest. This action was taken after an incident where a person named Arif Niazi was arrested based on a fake warrant.
Senior Advocate Manzill Murshid represented HRPB in court, while Deputy Attorney General JR Khan Robin and Assistant Attorney General Mohammad Humayun Hossain Tuhin represented the state.
