Munshiganj: The government is providing Farmer Cards to farmers across the country as part of its efforts to strengthen the agriculture-based economy by reducing production costs and ensuring fair prices for agricultural products. Under the government's election pledge, a total of 10,721 farmers in six upazilas of Munshiganj district will receive Farmer Cards, with 4,912 farmers set to get the cards in the first phase.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, information has so far been collected from 10,721 farmers for issuing the cards. Of them, 1,618 are from Sadar upazila, 1,255 from Tongibari, 1,874 from Sreenagar, 2,109 from Sirajdikhan, 1,774 from Louhajang, and 2,091 from Gazaria upazila. A total of 4,912 farmers in the district will receive financial assistance through the Farmer Cards during the first phase.
DAE Deputy Director Dr Md Habibur Rahman told BSS that the government has taken the initiative to provide Farmer Cards to ensure safe, reliable, and comprehensive agricultural services for the development and welfare of farmers. He said the potential target for Farmer Card beneficiaries in Munshiganj district has been set at 175,479 farmers, while information of 10,721 farmers has so far been collected.
Each cardholder farmer will get Taka 2,500 in cash assistance. Through the card, farmers will also be able to purchase agricultural inputs at fair prices and access agricultural incentives, easy-term agricultural loans, and crop insurance facilities.
