Thakurgaon: The body of Asadul Haque, a Bangladeshi national who was fatally shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), has been returned to Bangladesh through the Thakurgaon border. Asadul, aged 38, was the son of Abdul Wazed from South Indrail village in Pirganj upazila.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin, the commander of Dinajpur 42 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), confirmed that a flag meeting was convened between the BGB and BSF to arrange the repatriation of Asadul's body. This meeting took place at the zero line of the Chanderhat border on Sunday afternoon and included representatives from both the Dinajpur 42 BGB and the Indian BSF. Discussions during this meeting focused on the swift return of Asadul's body. Following the completion of legal procedures, the BSF handed over the body to the BGB at around 10 pm on Sunday.
Meanwhile, two other Bangladeshi nationals, Mostakim and Sri Uda, who survived the incident, remain detained in India. They are facing charges under India's Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, along with various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Both individuals were presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in Raiganj, India, which remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days. Mostakim, the son of Ahed Ali, and Sri Uda, the son of Narayan, both hail from North Indrail village in the same upazila.
Local residents and BGB sources report that several Bangladeshi youths crossed into Indian territory near border pillar No. 333, under the jurisdiction of the Chanderhat Border Outpost (BOP), during the early hours of Saturday. It was at this location that a patrol team from the BSF's 63 Chakshibananda camp in India's North Dinajpur district opened fire, injuring Asadul, Mostakim, and Sri Uda. Subsequently, BSF personnel rescued the injured individuals and transported them to Kaliaganj State General Hospital in North Dinajpur, where Asadul succumbed to his injuries.
