Dhaka: State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has announced plans to align Bangla and English medium curricula to elevate Bangladesh's education system to meet global standards. He emphasized the importance of establishing a common minimum standard of foundational knowledge, skills, and learning outcomes for students, regardless of their medium of education.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the State Minister outlined coordinated initiatives that will involve all types of educational institutions, both public and private, focusing on four key areas: curriculum, infrastructure, teacher training, and technology. Hajjaj shared these insights while addressing the School Leaders Conference 2026, organized by Oxford AQA International Qualifications at a city hotel in Dhaka.
Hajjaj expressed aspirations beyond merely adopting global best practices, envisioning a future where other countries might look to Bangladesh for exemplary educational practices. He assured that the government is committed to investing the necessary time, resources, and effort to achieve this ambitious goal.
The State Minister highlighted the necessity of ensuring a common standard of foundational knowledge and skills, irrespective of whether a student is enrolled in Bangla medium, English medium, or any other educational stream. He acknowledged potential disparities between high-performing and lower-performing institutions but insisted that significant differences in curriculum or the fundamental quality of education should not exist.
Addressing the urgent need for rapid reform in primary education, Hajjaj called for clear minimum standards to be set for school hours, effective learning time, classroom capacity, infrastructure, and teacher training. He emphasized that teachers should not be assigned classroom responsibilities without receiving proper training.
