Dhaka: A court here today sent to jail three people after the end of their three-day remand each in a case filed over the murder of one Sagor Khan alias Imran, an autorickshaw garage owner, in the city's Jatrabari area. The three remanded accused are Riyazul Islam Riyaz, Md Kamrul Hasan, and Md Saiful Hossain.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddique Azad passed the order as police produced the trio before the court after the end of their remand in the case and pleaded to keep them behind bars till the conclusion of the probe. Earlier on September 9, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hassan Shahadat placed them on a three-day remand each in the case.

According to the case documents, there was a dispute between the victim, Sagor Khan, and prime accused Riyaz and Kamrul over a demand for Taka two lakh in extortion. At around 10:30 pm on September 6, Riyaz, Kamrul, and several other miscreants, wearing helmets and riding motorcycles, raided Sagor's garage carrying firearms and locally made weapons.

The attackers opened fire indiscriminately. At one point, Riyaz shot Sagar in the back of the head at point-blank range. He also shot Sagar's friend Saddam in the left leg when Saddam tried to intervene and save him. Locals rushed Sagar and Saddam to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Sagar dead. The following day, Sagar's wife filed a case with Jatrabari Police Station.
