Dhaka: A tragic incident unfolded in Baharbagh village, Magura Sadar upazila, as a 16-year-old Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee, Fahmida, allegedly took her own life after failing the examination despite applying for a re-evaluation of her English answer scripts.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Fahmida, the daughter of Ilias Hossain and a student at Baharbagh Secondary School, had initially failed the SSC examination, securing a total of 64 marks in her English First and Second papers. In a bid to improve her results, Fahmida applied for a re-evaluation of her English papers. Unfortunately, the revised results confirmed her failure in the subject.
Family members reported that Fahmida was deeply distressed upon receiving the revised results. On Thursday afternoon, overwhelmed by despair, she attempted to take her own life in her room. Despite being rushed to Magura 250-bed Sadar Hospital, the emergency department doctor declared her dead upon arrival.
Abdul Al Mamun, the officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, confirmed that a case has been filed in connection with her death. The community is left in shock and mourning as they come to terms with this heartrending incident.
