Dhaka: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator and valiant freedom fighter Abdus Salam has issued a stern warning, stating that strict measures will be enforced against individuals who fail to eliminate mosquito breeding sites around their properties.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Abdus Salam made these remarks during a tree sapling distribution and tree plantation event at Azimpur Government Girls School and College in the capital. The initiative was a collaborative effort between Paribesh Unnayan Sangstha-Bangladesh and Azimpur Government Girls School and College, under a program titled 'Environmental Conservation and Addressing the Risks of Climate Change.'
Abdus Salam emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in residential and commercial areas to combat dengue. He highlighted the necessity of ensuring stagnant water is not left unattended for more than three days in locations such as rooftops, drains, flower pots, and beneath refrigerators and air conditioners. The administrator stressed that there would be no leniency if stagnant water in under-construction buildings, especially basements, turns into mosquito breeding grounds.
A nationwide campaign focused on dengue prevention and cleanliness is scheduled to commence on September 12, with Abdus Salam urging student participation in the initiative. Furthermore, a goal has been established to plant 25 crore trees across the country over the next five years to address climate change and ensure a livable environment for future generations.
In addition to his environmental appeals, Abdus Salam called on the public to refrain from the indiscriminate disposal of plastic and polythene waste. Addressing demands from students, he promised to facilitate the installation of a water pump, the removal of a foot over bridge, and discussions with the relevant ministry regarding free bus tolls. Moreover, he announced a personal contribution of Taka 100,000 for students' tiffin.
State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Habibur Rashid, lawmaker Hamidur Rahman Hamid, and Azimpur Government Girls School and College Principal Professor Nurjahan Akter were among the attendees at the event.
