Dhaka: Bangladesh received $6.85 billion in remittances from July 1 to September 9 of fiscal year 2026-27, marking a 15.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to Bangladesh Bank data released Thursday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the country had received $5.918 billion during the same period of fiscal year 2025-26. The rise in remittances highlights the significant role of Bangladeshi expatriates in supporting the national economy. In the first nine days of September 2026 alone, expatriates sent home $1.031 billion, marking a 1.3 percent increase from the $1.018 billion received during the corresponding period the previous year.
On September 9, Bangladesh received $127 million in remittances in a single day. In the previous fiscal year, FY26, the country received a total of $35.34 billion in remittances through formal banking channels, underscoring the importance of remittances as a cornerstone of the country's foreign exchange earnings.
