Dhaka: Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari today paid a courtesy call on Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Dr. Shafiqur Rahman at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here. The meeting was part of ongoing diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Chief of Nepal Embassy Pratik Karki was also present at the meeting, which was described as cordial and friendly. At the beginning of the discussion, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed his condolences over the recent natural disasters that struck Nepal, causing significant loss of life and property due to landslides and mudslides. Dr. Rahman also showed interest in understanding the current situation in Nepal.
Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari thanked Dr. Shafiqur Rahman for his empathy and support, acknowledging the condolence message sent by the opposition leader immediately following the disaster. The ambassador provided an update on the ongoing rescue operations in Nepal, highlighting the challenges faced by the people and the extensive damage caused by the natural calamities.
In response, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, who also serves as the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, emphasized the enduring friendly relations between Bangladesh and Nepal. He assured the ambassador of Jamaat-e-Islami's commitment to assist Nepal in every possible way during the crisis. The dialogue underscored the mutual support and cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting was also attended by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Naib-e-Ameer Prof. Mujibur Rahman, MP, Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, MP, Adviser on Foreign Affairs to the Leader of the Opposition, and Ali Ahmad Mabrur, a member of the committee to the Leader of the Opposition.
