Dhaka: President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to tackle corruption with unwavering honesty and courage, emphasizing that no one should be exempt due to their influence or position.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the President made these remarks during a courtesy meeting with an ACC delegation led by Chairman Justice A. K. M. Asaduzzaman at Bangabhaban. The delegation also included Commissioner (Investigation) Dr. Jahangir Alam Khan, Commissioner (Inquiry) Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan, and Secretary Md. Saidur Rahman Khan.
During the meeting, the ACC Chairman provided the President with an overview of the commission's activities, ongoing initiatives, and the challenges it faces in fulfilling its duties. He also sought the President's support to enhance the effectiveness of the commission's anti-corruption measures.
The President highlighted that corruption has become a significant issue in Bangladesh, primarily due to prolonged misgovernance, irregularities, and a lack of accountability. He noted that the nation's progress and future prosperity largely depend on the successful prevention and control of corruption.
President Fakhrul urged the ACC to take legal actions to expedite the resolution of numerous long-pending cases and minimize procedural delays. He also called for thorough investigations and strict measures against severe and large-scale corruption cases.
Emphasizing the importance of public awareness, the President encouraged the ACC to intensify its campaign activities to instill anti-corruption values among the citizens. He assured the commission of his full support in executing its constitutional and legal responsibilities effectively.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretaries to the President.
