Dhaka: A court here today placed two persons on five-day remand each in a case filed over the killing of Sub-Inspector (SI) Altaf Hossain of the police's Special Branch (SB) in Savar. The two remanded accused are Kashem Ali and Dodi Al Fayej.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Ayesha Siddiqa passed the order as police produced the duo before the court and pleaded to place them on a 10-day remand each. The same court on September 7 placed prime accused Jahurul on a five-day remand.
The case documents reveal that at around 7:30 pm on September 5, an altercation broke out between an autorickshaw driver and local residents over parking the rickshaw in front of Abul Kalam Azad's auto garage in Bordeshi Paschimpara area of Savar. At that time, police personnel Md Altaf Hossain, who was in the area while on leave, stepped forward to stop the argument and control the situation but came under attack by the accused.
In an attempt to save his life, Altaf Hossain took shelter at 'Grand Fashion', a business establishment owned by his son, located nearby. At around 8 pm, the accused, armed with various locally-made weapons, launched a sudden attack on the shop. The attackers brutally beat Altaf Hossain with rods, hammers, and sticks, leaving him bloodied and bruised. When his son Ariful Islam came forward to rescue his father, the attackers also hacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.
Local residents later rescued them and took them to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, where attending physicians declared Altaf Hossain dead. His son Ariful Islam was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. Altaf's widow, Sheuli Pervin, filed the case with Savar Police Station.
