Jhenaidah: A local leader of the Awami League, currently facing a ban on its activities, was brutally hacked to death by unidentified criminals in the Harinakundu upazila of Jhenaidah on Wednesday night. The deceased, Monayem Hossain, aged 48, was the president of an AL ward unit and also served as a ward member of Vayna Union Parishad.
According to United News of Bangladesh, some criminals attacked Monayem, son of Abul Mondal, while he was returning home from Moyenkhali Bazar around 9 pm. Witnesses reported that the attackers hacked him violently. He was initially taken to Kushtia General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at approximately 10:30 pm.
Police reported that one of Monayem's hands was almost severed from his body, and he suffered deep wounds to his abdomen and other parts of his body. Harinakundu Police Station Officer-in-Charge Masum Khan stated that the body was brought to the police station from the Kushtia hospital and would be sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Several police teams have been deployed to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing. However, no written complaint has been filed yet by the victim's family. Monayem's wife, Shilpi Khatun, expressed her grief, stating, "Today I have become a widow and my children orphans. I want justice for this brutal killing."
