Dhaka: Professor Dr Hossain Uddin Shekhar of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Dhaka has been appointed the first Vice-Chancellor of Shariatpur Agricultural University.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Ministry of Education's Secondary and Higher Education Division issued a notification to this effect on Tuesday, September 8, with the approval of the President and Chancellor. Professor Shekhar's appointment was made under Section 9(1) of the Shariatpur Agricultural University Act, 2023, which was amended in 2025.
His tenure will span four years from the date he assumes the post or until his retirement, whichever occurs first. During this period, he will maintain his substantive position at the University of Dhaka. Under the terms of his appointment, Professor Shekhar is entitled to receive salary and allowances equivalent to those of his current role, along with additional benefits in line with relevant rules.
As the chief executive officer of the university, Professor Shekhar is required to reside on campus full-time. The notification also mentioned that the President and Chancellor hold the authority to cancel the appointment at any time if necessary.
