Dhaka: Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has announced a rise in the domestic gold price following three consecutive reductions, increasing the rate of 22-carat gold by Tk 5,482 per bhori. This adjustment brings the cost of 22-carat gold, VAT included, to Tk 2,37,362 per bhori (11.664 grams), as stated in a notice issued by Bajus on Thursday morning. The revised price took effect from 10am the same day.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Bajus explained that the price hike was driven by an increase in the cost of pure gold (tejabi) in the local market. Alongside 22-carat gold, prices for other gold categories have also been updated. The new price for 21-carat gold is set at Tk 2,26,690 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 1,94,614 per bhori, and traditional (sanatan) gold at Tk 1,58,980 per bhori, all VAT inclusive.

The association confirmed that the updated rates will be applicable at all jewellery shops until further notice, although making charges will still apply based on ornament design. As VAT is incorporated into the selling price of gold and silver ornaments, it cannot be charged separately.

Bajus maintained that their existing policies on the exchange and repurchase of ornaments, excluding VAT, making charges, and stone prices, will remain unchanged. The last price adjustment occurred on September 2, when Bajus reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 4,374 per bhori, setting it at Tk 2,31,880. At that time, 21-carat gold was priced at Tk 2,21,441 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk 1,90,123, and traditional gold at Tk 1,55,306 per bhori.

In 2026, gold prices have undergone 111 adjustments in the domestic market, with 56 increases, 54 decreases, and one revision due to a VAT adjustment. Alongside gold, silver prices have also risen. The price of 22-carat silver, VAT inclusive, has increased by Tk 116 per bhori to Tk 5,132. The new price for 21-carat silver is Tk 4,957 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk 4,257, and traditional silver at Tk 3,208 per bhori.

Silver prices have experienced 68 adjustments in 2026, with 35 increases and 33 decreases.
