Dhaka: Three children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8:00 am on Thursday, raising the country's combined number of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 986 this year. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all three latest fatalities as suspected measles deaths.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the total number of suspected measles deaths has now reached 887, while confirmed deaths from measles have remained unchanged at 99. A nationwide measles vaccination campaign is scheduled to be held in three weeks, as announced by the health minister.
In the past 24 hours, 964 new suspected measles cases were reported, which has brought the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 161,148. Additionally, 80 new confirmed measles cases were recorded in the same period, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 19,527.
Since March 15 this year, DGHS data indicates that a total of 141,449 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalized across the country, with 136,405 of them having recovered.
