Khulna: All passengers of a trawler were rescued after it sank following a collision with a ferry in the middle of a river in Khulna district on Tuesday night.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the trawler carrying around 30 to 35 people collided with the ferry near Jailkhana Ghat where the Bhairab and Rupsha rivers meet, as reported by police. Remarkably, no deaths or injuries were reported in the incident.

The trawler had departed from Jailkhana Ghat for Sener Bazar at about 9:45pm while the ferry was en route to Khulna from the opposite direction. Local boatmen quickly responded to the situation, reaching the scene promptly and pulling passengers from the river to safety.

In addition to the swift actions of the local boatmen, Fire Service personnel, the Coast Guard, and Naval Police later joined the rescue operation to ensure all passengers were accounted for. Abul Khair, in-charge of Rupsa Naval Police Outpost, confirmed that police were alerted soon after the collision and rushed to the scene to assist in the rescue efforts.

Khair further stated that all the passengers were successfully rescued, although the trawler remained submerged in the river.
