Chattogram: State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin has emphasized that the government’s strength lies in the mandate of the country’s 18 crore people. He noted that the direct votes of the people elected the current government, highlighting the role of patriotic Bangladeshis in their ascent to power.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mir Helal made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at a discussion organized by the Hathazari upazila, municipality, and associate units of the BNP. The event was held to celebrate the party’s 48th founding anniversary. Mir Helal underscored the party’s unwavering commitment over the past 17 years, driven by the directives of their leader Tarique Rahman to confront Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration.
During his address, Mir Helal urged the people of Bangladesh to unite in advancing the country’s development and prosperity. He referenced the significance of August 5 as a pivotal moment aimed at changing the fortunes of Bangladesh’s 18 crore citizens.
The meeting, presided over by Hathazari Upazila BNP Convener Nur Mohammad and conducted by Upazila BNP Member Secretary Gias Uddin, witnessed a large turnout of leaders and activists from various BNP units, Jubo Dal, and Chhatra Dal, who arrived in jubilant processions.
Following the meeting, a colorful rally commemorating the founding anniversary was held, starting from the Hathazari bus station and culminating in front of the upazila complex. Thousands of participants joined the procession, showcasing unity and enthusiasm.
Earlier in the day, national and party flags were hoisted, and balloons were released at the Hathazari upazila headquarters to mark the occasion. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), founded on September 1, 1978, by the martyred President Ziaur Rahman, has been led by his spouse Begum Khaleda Zia and, following her passing on December 30, by the current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
