Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Division on Tuesday initiated a special drive to relocate buses that remain idle for extended periods at the Mohakhali Bus Terminal to a temporary bus depot in Purbachal. This move aims to alleviate traffic congestion around the terminal, restore discipline on the roads, and ensure the smooth movement of passengers.
According to United News of Bangladesh, DMP Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman, who was present at the launch of the drive, stated that buses parked at the terminal for long durations, including those waiting for hours before their subsequent trips, are being moved to the Purbachal depot in phases. He confirmed that a designated number of vehicles have already been relocated, and the remaining ones will be moved gradually.
Anisur further emphasized that the primary objective of this drive is to bring order to the terminal area and facilitate passenger movement. Facilities have been arranged at the Purbachal depot to accommodate the relocated buses. He urged cooperation from all bus owners and drivers for the success of this initiative.
The DMP Traffic Division ensured that sufficient police personnel were deployed during the operation to manage traffic and maintain law and order. Bus owners and drivers have been requested to comply with the instructions to move waiting buses from Mohakhali terminal to the Purbachal depot.
The Traffic Division indicated that such efforts will continue to help ease traffic congestion and enhance discipline in public transport management.
