Dhaka: Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan today stated the government's intention to elevate the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia. During a meeting with Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohd Shuhada Othman at the Secretariat, Moyeen Khan emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in several key sectors, such as manpower export, renewable energy, infrastructure, education, health, and trade.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was attended by State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam. The Malaysian envoy highlighted the recent visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Malaysia, expressing satisfaction with the outcomes. The discussions included critical topics like manpower export from Bangladesh to Malaysia, the registration of unregistered workers, and the creation of employment opportunities for Bangladeshi engineers in Malaysia.
The dialogue also touched upon the joint construction of hospitals, expanding educational prospects for Bangladeshi students in Malaysia, investments in renewable energy, and cooperation in producing sports goods. Both parties stressed the necessity of strengthening economic relations, especially in sectors such as electric vehicle imports, construction, and halal food.
Throughout the meeting, both sides expressed a mutual interest in transforming the long-standing friendly relations into a more robust economic partnership. Local Government Division Secretary Md Shahidul Hassan and other senior ministry officials were also present, underscoring the significance of the discussions in shaping future bilateral ties.
