Dhaka: Emphasizing the alternative fuel system, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Akhtar Hossain stated that due to increasing demand, more energy will be needed worldwide in the coming days. However, research indicates that meeting this energy demand is adversely impacting the environment. “So in the coming days, we have to do innovative research by coordinating energy and environment,” he said, stressing the importance of alternative fuels and the need to ensure their availability and use. To protect the environment, he advocated for an increase in green energy production. Professor Hossain delivered these remarks as the chief guest at the ‘International Symposium on Energy and Environment’ organized at RUET.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the program was presided over by Professor Mosharraf Hossain, Director of the Institute of Energy and Environmental Studies. Special guests included Professor Md. Rokonuzzaman and Professor Dr. Mohammad UH Joardar from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The day-long symposium, hosted by the Institute of Energy and Environmental Studies and RUET administration, took place at the CSE Seminar Room of RUET.
The event featured three separate keynote sessions with presentations from Associate Professor Naef Qasem of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia, Professor Mahbub Alam of Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen, China, and Reader in Fluids and Acoustics Eldad Avital of Queen Mary University of London, UK. These presentations highlighted the significant carbon emissions resulting from the use of conventional energy sources and explored potential alternative fuel options for the future, emphasizing the benefits of ensuring the use of alternative fuels globally.
Throughout the symposium, eight technical sessions were held where researchers presented over a hundred research papers. Teachers and students from various departments of RUET actively participated in the event.
