Dhaka: The Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority (BPPA) has initiated the second batch of its four-week non-residential Basic Public Procurement Management (PPM) training programme at the Engineering Staff College Bangladesh (ESCB) in Ramna, Dhaka. The training, which began yesterday, involves 34 officers, including six women, from various government offices. The programme is set to conclude on 8 September, 2026, as reported in a press release today. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shirajun Noor Chowdhury, Secretary of the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) at the Ministry of Planning, attended the inaugural session as the Chief Guest. BPPA Director (Training) Shaikh Muhammad Refat Ali, along with BPPA Director and national procurement trainer Shah Eyamin-Ul Islam, were also present, with senior officials from ESCB and IEB in attendance. The IMED Secretary highlighted the significance of PPM training, stating that professional training in public procurement is crucial for g overnment officials to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness in procurement processes. He emphasized the need to minimize unnecessary delays and additional costs in public procurement, noting that project costs often escalate due to procurement and land acquisition delays. The Secretary further noted the growing importance of professionalizing public procurement, asserting that such training programmes are vital for government officials to bolster their skills and execute procurement activities promptly and efficiently. As part of the World Bank-supported Procurement Modernization to Improve Public Service Delivery (PMIPSD) Project, BPPA plans to conduct 22 non-residential and five residential four-week PPM training courses during the 2026-27 fiscal year. The first residential training course under this programme is scheduled to commence on 22 August, 2026, at the ESCB campus in Gazaria, Munshiganj.
