Sylhet: Police recovered the bodies of an elderly couple and their domestic help with their throats slit from a flat of a four-story building in the city's Raynagar residential area on Wednesday. The deceased were identified as MA Sattar, 82, of Raynagar Rajbari area, his wife Suraiya Begum, 72, and their domestic help Tahmina, 25, of Jallarpar area.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sarwar Murshed Shamim reported that a local resident informed him around 9 am about blood flowing from beneath the closed door of Sattar's flat. Police arrived promptly at the scene and discovered the three individuals dead with injuries inflicted by sharp weapons.
Sattar's nephew, Munna Mia, mentioned that he spoke to the victims around 9 am and suspected they were killed sometime afterward. The police commissioner noted that residents of the building heard screams and shouting in the morning, indicating the killings likely occurred around that time.
Crime scene teams from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are actively working at the scene. A special police team has been established to investigate the killings. Police discovered open wardrobes and cupboards, leading investigators to explore the possibility of stolen gold ornaments or other valuables.
'We are investigating whether the incident was a robbery or whether it stemmed from family enmity or a previous dispute,' the police commissioner stated. SMP Media Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Manzurul Alam confirmed that the bodies were sent to the morgue of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy following inquest examinations.
Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury visited the scene and engaged with senior police officials following the incident.
