Dhaka: The Indonesian Embassy in Dhaka announced its commitment to facilitating visa services for Bangladeshi nationals under the current policy framework, as Bangladesh and Indonesia engaged in discussions to enhance their bilateral cooperation.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the discussions took place during a courtesy visit by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Bangladesh, Listyowati, to the Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister, Afroza Khanam. The meeting, which was also attended by State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat, focused on improving the mechanism of utilizing the e-visa system to provide greater convenience for Bangladeshi nationals traveling to Indonesia.
The meeting was one of a series of courtesy calls conducted by the Indonesian ambassador in Dhaka with senior Bangladeshi government officials since she assumed her duties in January 2026. This series of meetings aims to strengthen communication and explore bilateral cooperation, particularly in civil aviation and tourism.
Discussions during the meeting included opportunities to enhance cooperation in civil aviation and tourism, focusing on tourism development, improved air connectivity, human resource development, and fostering stronger people-to-people contact. The potential for joint activities in tourism and culture was also explored, especially as both countries approach the 55th anniversary of Bangladesh-India diplomatic relations in 2027.
The ambassador expressed Indonesia's openness to developing concrete cooperation in tourism through promotion, destination development, experience exchange, and institutional cooperation. Both sides discussed opportunities for capacity building and human resource development in the tourism sector.
In the civil aviation sector, potential cooperation in Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) was discussed, including technical support, training, and capacity building. The possibility of enhancing air connectivity between the two countries, including the development of direct flights, was also explored.
