Dhaka: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam has announced that development project priorities for areas newly incorporated into the city corporation will be set by coordinating the needs of local residents and public representatives. He stated that streetlights, modern waste management, and improved communication systems would be developed in these areas progressively as part of the ongoing development activities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the remarks were made during a tree-plantation programme in Ward No. 75 of the Khilgaon Kayetpara area, where Abdus Salam was present as the chief guest. He also inspected ongoing development activities in the area alongside State Minister for Railways and Road Transport and Highways Division Habibur Rashid Habib, who attended as the special guest. During the field visit, the DSCC administrator assessed the progress of tree planting activities, road conditions, the surrounding environment, and the overall status of ongoing development projects.
Abdus Salam instructed officials to maintain cleanliness, ensure proper maintenance of planted trees, and uphold the quality of ongoing development work. He emphasized that regular field-level monitoring would be conducted to ensure civic amenities for local residents. Regarding tax exemption applications from residents of newly incorporated areas, he mentioned that development activities are funded through a combination of citizen taxes and government allocations. While noting that development work would be affected if taxes are not paid, he indicated that cases of citizens who are completely helpless might be considered separately.
State Minister Habibur Rashid Habib, speaking as the special guest, mentioned that a list of existing problems related to roads, drainage systems, culverts, and educational institutions had been submitted to the DSCC administrator for the area's overall development. He expressed hope that Dhaka South City Corporation would take effective steps to address these issues promptly. Local political leaders and senior DSCC officials at various levels were present during the inspection and tree-planting programme.
