Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today expressed "hope" that India will expedite the extradition process of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was toppled on August 5 in 2024, following a student-people uprising. He conveyed this sentiment during a meeting with Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Dinesh Trivedi, at the Prime Minister's Cabinet Division Office at the Bangladesh Secretariat, said Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Shadhin.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister welcomed the Indian high commissioner at the outset of the meeting, during which Trivedi shared his experiences from his two-month tenure in Dhaka. Shahadat Shadhin mentioned that significant bilateral issues between Bangladesh and India were on the agenda.
Bangladesh articulated its expectation for India to expedite the extradition process for Sheikh Hasina, emphasizing the importance of this matter. Additionally, Bangladesh reiterated its request for India to return the individuals involved in the murder of Shaheed Osman Hadi.
The Prime Minister underscored the necessity of creating a conducive environment to further advance bilateral relations between the two countries. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir, and other concerned officials.
