Expatriates’ Ministry and Janata Bank Collaborate to Introduce Expatriate Card

Dhaka: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment and Janata Bank PLC, aiming to launch the 'Expatriate Card' for Bangladeshi citizens living abroad and those aspiring to migrate overseas.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this initiative has been undertaken as part of the ongoing efforts to facilitate financial transactions for expatriate remittance senders, bring them under banking services, and ensure various benefits for them.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event held at the ministry's conference room today, State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Haque stated, 'Through the launch of the expatriate card, we are about to witness a historic and groundbreaking event.' He emphasized the significant contribution of expatriate Bangladeshis in maintaining the vibrancy of the country's economy and strengthening the foreign exchange reserve. The digital expatriate card aims to ensure overall protection for their lives, secure their hard-earned money, and simplify the transaction process in the country.

He expressed hope that through the expatriate card, expatriates will be able to enjoy faster and safer transactions through direct banking channels, as well as various government benefits more easily.

In his remarks as the chair of the event, the Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md. Mokhtar Ahmed noted that the government's activities are progressing with efficiency according to time-bound specific plans and roadmaps. The government is committed to implementing every decision taken for the welfare of expatriates and the expansion of their benefits within the stipulated timeframe. Today's signing of this MoU is a clear reflection of that commitment.

During the event, Secretary Md. Mokhtar Ahmed signed the MoU on behalf of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, while the Managing Director of Janata Bank PLC Md. Mojibur Rahman signed on behalf of the bank.
