Dhaka: Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon emphasized the importance of technical education in building a developed Bangladesh. "The government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has taken a comprehensive plan to transform the country's huge population into human resources," he stated at the "Commemoration of the Historic July Mass Uprising and Creative Student Award" programme held at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Milon remarked on the significance of the month of July in the nation's history. He accused the Awami League of attempting to destroy the country, but praised the sacrifices of hundreds of martyrs in the new generation who saved Bangladesh. He urged students to move beyond conventional education to meet the global demand for skilled manpower with technical education.
Dr Milon highlighted that expatriate workers are a major source of foreign currency for Bangladesh. By equipping them with technical education before they go abroad, the country's economy could become more prosperous. He announced plans to establish four more engineering colleges to modernize and expand technical education and expressed his determination to develop Dhaka Government Polytechnic Institute into a model institution.
The programme was chaired by the Principal of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute, Md Mustafizur Rahman Khan, and attended by notable figures including Member of Parliament for Reserved Women's Seat-16 Sanzida Islam Tuli, Director General of the Directorate of Technical Education Abul Khayer Md Akkas Ali, and Chairman of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board Engineer Md Ruhul Amin.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Md Rakibul Islam Rakib also addressed the event as the chief discussant. Following the commemoration, Dr Milon honored the family members of martyrs Hamidur Rahman Majumdar and Samid Hossain, who lost their lives during the July Mass Uprising, and recognized injured students of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute.
Earlier, Dr Milon virtually attended the Orientation-2026 programme of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, where he expressed his vision of developing IU into an internationally recognized university. He urged young people to make effective use of their student life to become the architects of tomorrow's Bangladesh. The orientation was chaired by IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A K M Matinur Rahman.
