Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman stated that the government does not intend to gag people's voices or restrict their right to free expression.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, while addressing a query about the proposed Cyber Law, the minister explained that the law would be finalized following additional scrutiny and review. He emphasized that the legislation must safeguard constitutionally guaranteed freedoms while addressing crimes like character assassination and defamation through artificial intelligence misuse. The minister underscored the importance of balancing free speech protection with crime prevention, assuring that the process would not be rushed in a manner that limits expression.
In response to another question, the minister mentioned the proposed Prevention and Remedy of Enforced Disappearance Act, 2026, and the National Human Rights Commission (Amendment) Act, 2026.
