Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Safiqul Islam Khan today said strict legal action will be taken against unfit vehicles and drivers without license and reckless driving. He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting the body of DNCC sanitation worker Shefali Begum, who was killed in a road accident while on duty in the capital's Madhya Badda.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the administrator stated that prompt action would be taken against drivers without license and those who cause accidents through reckless driving. He urged all concerned to act more responsibly and remain vigilant to prevent such tragic accidents in the future. Khan emphasized that sanitation workers serve city residents day and night through their hard work, and everyone's cooperation is needed to ensure they can perform their duties safely and without disruption.
The administrator assured continued support for sanitation workers and stated that the DNCC would always work for their welfare. Expressing deep condolences to the family of the deceased, he announced that the DNCC would provide the family with financial assistance of Tk 400,000 as well as an amount equivalent to one year's salary.
Responding to a question from journalists, Khan mentioned that if any DNCC vehicle is found to have been operated by a driver without license or a helper, an investigation will be conducted and appropriate action will be taken against those responsible. However, to his knowledge, no DNCC vehicle is operated by a helper or an unskilled driver.
Earlier, upon receiving news of the accident and following the Prime Minister's directive, State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor, and the DNCC administrator visited the victim's residence to offer condolences to her family.
