Dhaka: Newly-appointed Bangladesh national hockey team head coach Peter Gerhard arrived in Dhaka early today to take charge of the national hockey team. He was warmly welcomed by officials of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the experienced German coach has been appointed to help raise the standard of Bangladesh hockey and further strengthen the national team's performances on the international stage. Gerhard is expected to begin working with the players currently attending the Asian Games training camp without delay. Speaking briefly upon his arrival in Dhaka, Gerhard expressed confidence in the potential of the Bangladesh team. He mentioned that the team is better than their recent tournament results suggest and emphasized the need for improvement. Gerhard stated, "In my opinion, the team is much better than the results they achieved in the recent tournaments. We have to improve the current situation, and that is ex actly what we'll work on." He further elaborated on the challenges ahead and the long-term rewards, adding, "The players will have to go through a very tough period over the coming weeks and work extremely hard. But in the end, they will enjoy the rewards of that hard work." Gerhard also recalled his long association with Bangladesh hockey and wished success to the federation's new leadership. He has previously served as head coach of the Bangladesh national hockey team on several occasions.
