Dhaka: Bangladesh Bank has announced that it will not pursue a separate or targeted investigation into the activities of former president Md. Shahabuddin Chuppu. This decision was confirmed by the central bank's Executive Director and Spokesperson, Arief Hossain Khan, during a press briefing held at the bank's premises on Sunday.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Arief Hossain Khan emphasized that because Md. Shahabuddin held the highest constitutional office in the nation, there are no plans for a new probe specifically targeting him. He further explained that any potential evidence linking Shahabuddin to financial irregularities would be addressed through existing institutional investigations.

The spokesperson highlighted the ongoing institution-specific investigations aimed at promoting good governance within the country's banking sector. He clarified that the regulatory focus remains on institutions rather than individuals, ensuring that any discovery of irregularities or involvement by persons or entities will be managed under current laws and regulations.

Md. Shahabuddin resigned from his position as president on Friday and subsequently relocated from Bangabhaban to his personal residence in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Sunday.
