July Uprising Brought Message of Freedom for the Nation: Opposition Leader

Dhaka: Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Dr Shafiqur Rahman stated that the July mass uprising aimed to establish a society free from discrimination, grounded in justice and fairness, and ultimately to liberate the country from murder, enforced disappearances, killings, terrorism, anarchy, and Aynaghar. He made these remarks while addressing a public rally organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka North Metropolitan's Mirpur Zone in the Mirpur-10 area. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shafiqur, who is also the Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, described the July movement as a powerful force that swept away fascism like a house of cards. He emphasized that the current government and parliament emerged from the momentum created by the July movement. The opposition leader called for bringing those responsible for the July killings to justice. He also urged the government to ensure proper medical treatment for those injured or permanently disabled during the movement and to provide them with the means t o live with dignity. The programme was chaired by Mohammad Selim Uddin, a member of the party's Central Executive Council and Ameer of Dhaka North Metropolitan.
