Dhaka: Bangladesh and Thailand have initiated discussions aimed at providing employment for approximately 10,000 Bangladeshi workers in Thailand, contingent upon the completion of necessary formalities. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, and tourism.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussions took place during a bilateral meeting between Humaiun Kobir, the Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser of Bangladesh, and Vijavat Isarabhakdi, the Thai Deputy Foreign Minister, in Bangkok this morning. The meeting was held during Humaiun's stopover in the Thai capital following his official visit to Manila, Philippines.
The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to strengthen their longstanding friendly relations and explore avenues for increased cooperation in trade, investment, labor mobility, tourism, and people-to-people contacts. A particular focus was placed on the potential for opening employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers in Thailand once all necessary procedures are finalized.
Additionally, Humaiun Kobir sought continued support from Thailand for Bangladesh's inclusion as an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner. In response, the Thai Deputy Foreign Minister assured that Thailand would maintain its constructive engagement regarding Bangladesh's quest for this status, which is part of Bangladesh's broader strategy to enhance its institutional ties with the Southeast Asian regional bloc.
During the meeting, Humaiun also extended an invitation to the Thai Prime Minister to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time, further cementing the friendly relations between the two countries.
