Dhaka: Eight more children have succumbed to measles and measles-like symptoms across the nation in the past 24 hours, highlighting a growing health crisis.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that during the same period, the total number of children affected by measles reached 1,185. A release from the DGHS revealed that 1,092 suspected measles cases were reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of suspected cases to 80,104 since March 15.
In the past 24 hours, 93 cases were confirmed as measles, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 9,779 since March 15. A total of 65,237 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals since March 15, and of these, 61,278 patients have recovered and been discharged.
One person died from confirmed measles in the last 24 hours, increasing the total number of deaths from confirmed measles to 92. Additionally, seven people died from suspected measles during the past 24 hours, raising the total number of deaths from suspected measles to 536.
The Dhaka division has reported the highest number of suspected measles cases, with 37,387 people affected. Of these, 6,794 cases have been confirmed as measles.
