Dhaka: A delegation led by Paul Frost, Commercial Counselor of the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka, met with Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju at the City Hall on Sunday afternoon. During the meeting, senior officials from both KCC and the U.S. Embassy exchanged views on potential areas of collaboration.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the U.S. delegation expressed interest in contributing to several sectors within Khulna City, including healthcare services, mosquito control, infrastructure development, transportation, and waste management. The meeting aimed to explore avenues for cooperation in these key areas.
Welcoming the delegation to Khulna, the KCC Administrator detailed the corporation’s ongoing development projects. He emphasized the adverse impacts of climate change on the region and sought technical assistance from the U.S. government to address these challenges. The Administrator assured the delegation of KCC’s full cooperation in initiatives concerning renewable energy, tourism development, mosquito eradication, waste-to-energy generation, and road infrastructure improvement.
The Administrator also called for support in modernizing the city’s transportation sector, highlighting the potential introduction of electric buses or a metro rail service as a significant advancement. The discussion underscored the mutual interest in fostering sustainable urban development in Khulna.
The meeting was attended by U.S. Embassy officials Isaiah Faherty, Brandon Barnes, Giovanni Ramirez, and Mashhur Alam Shet, as well as KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Chief Planning Officer Abir Ul Jabbar, Waste Management Officer Engineer Md. Anisur Rahman, Chief Health Officer Dr. Sharif Shammiyul Islam, and Executive Engineer Sheikh Md. MasudKarim.
