Govt Prioritizes Welfare of Marginalised Communities: AZM Zahid

Dhaka: Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain has emphasized the government’s dedication to the development and welfare of marginalised and disadvantaged sections of society. “We are committed to implementing electoral pledges under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The present government is working for the development and welfare of the country’s marginalised communities,” he stated during a seminar at the Police Convention Hall on Eskaton Garden Road in the capital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar was titled “Providing a Modern Scientific Blood Storage Refrigerator and Medical Equipment to DDC Sandhani” and was organized by the Rotary Club of Gulshan Avenue. During the event, AZM Zahid highlighted the government’s zero-tolerance policy against violence against women and child marriage. He also underscored the importance of education, skills development, caregiver training, and language education programmes.

alled for the involvement of people from all walks of life in efforts to eliminate social injustices and stressed the necessity of raising public awareness against drug abuse, gambling, and violence against women and children. He announced the launch of an advocacy campaign aimed at creating social awareness, which will begin in Dhaka after June and eventually expand nationwide.

Highlighting the role of the media, Zahid Hossain pointed out that public awareness campaigns require active support from the media in addition to government initiatives. He further mentioned the government’s collaboration with private organisations and volunteers to enhance healthcare services.

Praising the humanitarian efforts of the Rotary Club of Gulshan Avenue, Zahid Hossain remarked that such activities would strengthen social responsibility and community engagement in Bangladesh. “Blood is a life-saving resource. The stronger the system for its preservation and supply, the more lives can be saved,” he added, expressing his am
bition to work towards building the nation and elevating Bangladesh’s profile on the global stage.

The event also featured prominent figures such as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir, Director General of the Directorate General of Medical Education Professor Nazmul Hossain, PDG Dr. Ishtiaque A. Zaman, Programme Chairman and Club Director of Rotary Club of Gulshan Avenue Mohammad Salah Uddin, and Club President Dr. Lubna Sharmin.
