Dhaka: Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today announced that the ongoing heatwave affecting the country will persist.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a Met office bulletin released this morning indicated that a mild to moderate heatwave is currently sweeping through the divisions of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal, as well as the districts of Chandpur, Noakhali, and Brahmanbaria, and this condition is expected to continue.
In addition to the heatwave, BMD has forecasted rain in various parts of the country over the next 24 hours starting from 9 am. The bulletin predicts that light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds and lightning, will occur in select locations. Specifically, a few places within the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions will experience these conditions, while one or two places in the Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barishal divisions may see moderately heavy rainfall.
The BMD bulletin further mentions that while the day temperature might slightly decrease in the northeastern regions, it is expected to remain nearly unchanged in other parts of the country. Night temperatures are likely to stay consistent as well. Despite the potential for rainfall, the bulletin warns that increased moisture incursion may lead to persistent discomfort for residents.
On Wednesday, the highest temperature was recorded at 38.5 degrees Celsius in Dinajpur, located in the Rangpur division, while the minimum temperature today was noted at 23.5 degrees Celsius in Sylhet. Residents in Dhaka can expect the sun to set at 6:43 pm today and rise at 5:11 am tomorrow.
