Barura: Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher today emphasized the government’s commitment to realizing the ideals and vision of the late Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. Speaking at a daylong free medical camp held at Jhalam School and College in Barura Upazila, Zakaria highlighted the steps being taken to fulfill this vision.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organized by the AKM Abu Taher Foundation to commemorate the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Ziaur Rahman, the founder of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). During his address, Minister Zakaria underscored Ziaur Rahman’s significant contributions, particularly his role in establishing multi-party democracy in the country.
The minister also pointed out that the current government is striving to ensure citizens’ voting rights and freedom of expression. He mentioned various initiatives aimed at environmental protection and sustainable development, including canal excavation and tree-planting programs.
The medical camp provided free treatment to approximately 5,000 people from surrounding areas. The event was attended by Barura Upazila BNP President Kaisar Alam Selim, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Asaduzzaman Rony, along with local political and social leaders.
