Rajshahi: Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has stated that Bangladesh’s independence was not achieved through negotiations like those of India and Pakistan, but through a bloodstained war. The independence struggle, led by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, was a testament to the honesty and courage of the Bengali nation. Minu expressed these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting marking the 45th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion was organized by the Rajshahi District BNP at the Moonlight Convention Centre in Rajshahi city. The Land Minister emphasized that honesty is the greatest ornament of BNP leaders and activists. He highlighted the oppression faced by party members during the long rule of the Awami League, leading to many being tortured, forced into hiding, separated from their families, or imprisoned.
Minu urged the BNP to build a stronger organization by embracing this history of sacrifice and struggle. He called for unity, asking leaders and activists to set aside personal and organizational differences to meet the expectations of the people. He stressed the importance of prioritizing national interests and encouraged party members to play a responsible role at every level.
Special guests at the event included District BNP convener Abu Sayeed Chand MP, BNP Secretary for Forest and Environment Affairs Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, Co-Secretary for Relief and Rehabilitation Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP, and Nazrul Islam Mondol, MP. The program highlighted President Ziaur Rahman’s political life, his role in the Liberation War, and his efforts in establishing democracy in Bangladesh. A special prayer and munajat were also offered for his departed soul.
