Shailkupa: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has urged students to strive for a corruption-free society as a service to Bangladesh. Addressing a reception programme for meritorious students in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah, the minister emphasized the significance of education in fostering integrity and accountability.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted that many individuals involved in financial misconduct are highly educated, yet they contribute to corruption. He remarked, “Those who looted Bangladesh, laundered money abroad, built ‘Begum Paras’ in Canada and in different countries around the world, all of them are at least Master’s degree holders. They are also educated. But they are corrupt. The poor, farmers and hungry people of my country do not know how to steal.”
The event, hosted by the BCS Cadre Forum, Shailkupa, at the Shailkupa Upazila Parishad Auditorium, saw the participation of prominent figures including Professor Dr Md Nasir Uddin, President of the Shailkupa BCS Forum and Director of the National Burn Unit, and Gias Uddin, the forum’s general secretary and Joint Secretary. Retired Additional Inspector General of Police Shahabuddin Khan also addressed the audience.
In his speech, Md Asaduzzaman appealed to the students who recently secured university admissions, urging them to pursue careers as BCS officers, doctors, and engineers with a commitment to eradicating corruption. He encouraged them to hold public figures accountable, including himself, if they encounter corrupt practices.
The minister further emphasized the importance of living a life of integrity, stating, “A person does not need a great deal of money to live. There is no need for excessive wealth. It is good to have an attachment to life. But that attachment should be for living healthily, living well and remaining accountable to one’s conscience.”
The programme concluded with the presentation of crests and commemorative gifts to the meritorious students, celebrating their academic achievements and future contributions towards a just society.
