Chattogram: Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs State Minister Barrister Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin today asserted that Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman harbored no desire or obsession for power. “Shaheed Zia proclaimed the independence during the 1971 Liberation War, engaged in combat on the battlefield, and then returned to his profession after the war. He fought solely for the nation. He possessed no desire or obsession for power,” stated Helal.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister made these remarks at a program commemorating Shaheed Zia’s 45th martyrdom anniversary. The event was hosted by the city unit of Jatiyabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) at the first grave site in Zianagar, Rangunia upazila of the district. Helal emphasized that those who fought valiantly did not experience the fruits of power. Instead, genuine freedom fighters became victims of exploitation and deprivation following independence. He credited Shaheed Zia with suppressing the regime of plunder that emerged post-1971 and reinstating a regime focused on development.
Mir Helal also criticized the current government, describing it as an Awami fascist regime that established a regime of plunder under the guise of development. He attributed this to conspiracies orchestrated by malevolent circles from the 1/11 era. He claimed this government has dismantled developmental frameworks and severely weakened the country’s economy.
He further stated that Bangladesh is progressing toward development under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He stressed that power belongs to the people, not the state, and the current government aims to ensure real empowerment and economic liberation for the populace.
JCD city unit convener Saiful Alam presided over the event, which was attended by senior leaders of BNP and JCD, among others.
