Thakurgaon: LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced that appointments at Thakurgaon University would be strictly merit-based, eliminating any chance for nepotism. He emphasized that no political influence or partisanship would be tolerated in the hiring process for faculty or other staff positions at the university.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks during the inauguration of the temporary office of Thakurgaon University, located on the west side of the large field of the Government Boys High School in Thakurgaon city. Mirza Fakhrul highlighted that Thakurgaon University represents the longstanding dreams and aspirations of the local community and should be developed to meet international standards.
He stressed that the quality of education must not be compromised in the pursuit of creating a modern and world-class university. Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister and the government, Mirza Fakhrul acknowledged the community’s demand for a medical college and a university. The government has responded by initiating the establishment of the university promptly, with the vice-chancellor appointment already completed and the temporary office inaugurated.
Speaking at a meeting with journalists at the Mirza Ruhul Amin Auditorium, Fakhrul Islam Alamgir addressed the past challenges faced by journalists in the country. He called for unity among journalists to protect their rights and ensure media freedom in the evolving landscape of Bangladesh. He noted that responsible and objective journalism plays a crucial role in national welfare.
The event was attended by State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, Thakurgaon-3 MP Zahidul Rahman Zahid, University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Israfil Shaheen, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rafiqul Haque, Superintendent of Police Belal Hossain, Acting President of Thakurgaon Press Club Lutfar Rahman Mithu, senior journalist Abdul Latif, and other senior administration officials, political leaders, teachers, and well-wishers.
