Police to Submit Charge Sheet in Ramisa Murder Case by Sunday: Home Minister

Dhaka: Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday announced that police are set to submit the charge sheet in the Ramisa Akter murder case to the court by Sunday afternoon. The announcement came after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the family of the slain child in Pallabi, Dhaka.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Home Minister stated that the police have diligently fulfilled their responsibilities by arresting the accused, who has already provided a confessional statement under Section 164. Before the charge sheet can be submitted, a DNA test must be completed, which is currently underway at the Criminal Investigation Department’s laboratory with court approval.

The minister explained that the DNA examination process typically takes 48 hours due to its scientific nature. He expressed confidence that the test would be completed by Sunday noon, enabling the submission of the charge sheet to the court by Sunday afternoon. l proceedings and ensuring the highest punishment for the perpetrator.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited Ramisa’s family at 9:50 pm, staying for about 18 minutes. He was accompanied by several officials, including Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque, Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brig Gen (retd) AKM Shamsul Islam, and Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Safiqul Islam Khan. During the visit, the Prime Minister offered condolences to the grieving family and assured them of the government’s support.

After the meeting, the Home Minister revealed that the Prime Minister pledged to cover all educational and related expenses for Ramisa’s elder sister, Raisa Akter. Additionally, the Prime Minister committed to arranging secure accommodation for the family in the near future.

Salahuddin also mentioned that the government is contemplating legal reforms to ensure quicker investigations and trials
in cases involving child rape and murder. He noted that the matter was discussed at a Cabinet meeting, where the Law Minister assured that necessary legal amendments would be pursued.

The Home Minister reiterated the government’s determination to prevent such heinous crimes from recurring in the country. When asked about the family’s requests, he said they primarily sought a speedy and fair trial, along with support for their remaining daughter’s safety and education. The Prime Minister assured them of assistance in these areas.

Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman reported that the family expressed satisfaction with the swift arrest of the accused and the legal actions taken thus far. The case has prompted protests from classmates and local residents demanding a speedy trial and capital punishment for the killer, following the discovery of seven-year-old Ramisa’s mutilated body in a Pallabi flat on Tuesday morning.
