Pirganj: Two teenage cousins drowned while taking a bath in a pond in Pirganj Upazila of the district. Their bodies were recovered on Thursday night from a pond in Kathalpara village under Chatra Union of the upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the deceased were identified as Tamim, 13, son of Nurul Mia, and Sadman, 14, son of Suruj Mia, both residents of Kathalpara village. Local sources reported that four friends went together in the afternoon to take a bath in a pond beside their house.
Tamim and Sadman, who did not know how to swim, eventually sank into deep water. Their two other friends started screaming for help, prompting local people to rush to the scene.
After extensive searching, the two teenagers were rescued around 9:30 pm and taken to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirganj Police Station Nazmul Haque confirmed the incident and said the bodies were handed over for burial to their families.
