Bangladesh: Thomas Dooley has been officially named the new head coach of the Bangladesh national football team, as confirmed by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) following his arrival in Dhaka today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BFF made the announcement through its official Facebook page and a media release. Although Dooley’s appointment was anticipated, the federation chose not to confirm it until his arrival in the country. The BFF expressed excitement about having the German-American tactician lead the Bangladesh men’s national team.

Dooley brings 43 years of global football experience, having played for the USA national team, including the 1994 FIFA World Cup, and serving as captain during the 1998 FIFA World Cup. His coaching credentials include a stint as an assistant coach of the US national team under Jurgen Klinsmann from 2011 to 2014. Known for his ability to build teams, Dooley previously led the Philippines national football team to an unbeaten AFC Asian Cup qualification campaign and their highest-ever FIFA ranking.

Most recently, Dooley was the head coach of the Guyana national football team, achieving victories in all four matches under his leadership. His new role involves the challenge of transforming the Bangladesh national team into a competitive side by harnessing the potential of young players.

This appointment represents a strategic move by the BFF to strengthen Bangladesh’s football program with the guidance of an experienced international coach.
