Gazipur: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the National Institute of Disaster Management Research and Training building in Gazipur. The ceremony took place at 2:00 pm at Sataish Chowrasta in the Dhorpara area of Gazipur.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the event was attended by Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, State Minister M Iqbal Hossain, Secretary Saidur Rahman Khan, and senior officials. After the foundation stone ceremony, the Prime Minister participated in environmental activities by releasing fish fry into a pond on the institute's premises and planting a tree sapling.
The institute is set to be established on approximately eight acres of land in the Dhorpara area, featuring an administrative building and residential facilities for trainees. The initiative aims to enhance disaster management capabilities and reduce vulnerability through comprehensive training and research on climate-related disasters.
Minister Dulu, speaking at the event, emphasized that the institute will play a crucial role in developing skilled manpower for disaster risk reduction. He stated that it is poised to become a leading center for disaster research and training in South Asia and beyond, strengthening the nation's disaster management capacity.
