Chattogram: Police have arrested a sailor named Turakarn Burusik, aged 35, in connection with the killing of a Thai national, Rafifong Klahan, aged 30, following a clash between two sailors on a foreign ship anchored in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of Anwara coastal belt.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrest was made after a joint raid by police from Patenga and Anwara police stations on the ship, MV KPP-01 (IMO 9021203), earlier this afternoon. Turakarn Burusik, who is also a Thai citizen, was apprehended in relation to the incident.
Officer-in-Charge Junayet Chowdhury of Anwara police station confirmed the incident, stating that a raid was conducted on the ship leading to the arrest of the accused sailor. A murder case was filed with Anwara police station by the ship authorities earlier in the morning.
Details of the case reveal that the clash occurred between the two foreign sailors aboard the ship docked at Charlie Anchor Point on Tuesday night. During the altercation, Turakarn Burusik allegedly stabbed Rafifong, inflicting severe injuries.
Fellow crew members rushed Rafifong to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at midnight while receiving treatment.
