Sakline Secures Silver in Commonwealth Chess Championship

Kalutara: Bangladesh’s FIDE Master Sakline Mostafa Sajid won the silver medal in the Junior (Under-20) category of the Rapid Chess event of the Commonwealth Chess Championship held in Kalutara, Sri Lanka. FM Sakline scored 5.5 points from seven games to finish second and secure the silver medal.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the first four rounds of the rapid event were played on Monday morning, while the remaining three rounds took place on Tuesday morning. FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid demonstrated strong performance throughout the event, particularly after defeating Women Candidate Master Chua Jia Tien of Malaysia in the second round of the Standard Chess event.



In the same round, FM Khondakar Aminul Islam split points with Rajendra Karthikeyan of Malaysia, while Walijah Ahmed lost to Indian Grandmaster M. R. Venkatesh. Rayan Rashid Mugdho was unable to compete due to illness and had to give a walkover.



In the youth categories, Jannatul Preety scored 1.5 points from two games in the Girls’ Under-16 category, Zayan Khan earned one point in the Under-18 category, and Shayan Meerab Hasan scored 0.5 point in the U-16 group.
